MY WHITE BESTFRIEND

And Other Letters Left Unsaid

curated by Rachel De-Lahay & Milli Bhatia

Could you put your white best friend on stage and remind them that they’re part of the problem? Even if you love them? Even if you never want anyone to feel for even a moment how you feel living in this world everyday?

Rachel De-Lahay’s provocative act of letter writing engages with racial tensions, microaggressions and emotional labour, asking the privileged to step back and for the rest of the room to take up space. She and director Milli Bhatia have commissioned eleven writers to respond with their own letters that say the unsaid to the people that matter most.

Featuring different letters every night from some of the most exciting voices in the UK, My White Best Friend (and other letters left unsaid) includes work from:

Zia Ahmed, Travis Alabanza, Fatimah Ashgar, Nathan Bryon, Matilda Ibini
Jammz, Iman Qureshi, Anya Reiss, Somalia Seaton, Nina Segal, Tolani Shoneye

Performers will read these newly created pieces live onstage each night – without having seen them ahead of time. The letters will be read by:

Inès de Clercq, Rosie Day, Phoebe Fox, Zainab Hasan, Nick Holder, Danny Lee Wynter
George MacKay, Shvorne Marks, Tom Moutchi, Cherrelle Skeete
Ben Bailey Smith, Chris Sonnex, Ria Zmitrowicz
After the performances DJs will play til late every night of the week – so stick around and party with us until the early hours.

Each night’s line-up will be released on the day of each performance via The Bunker’s social media accounts.
